A prospective local councillor has successfully lobbied highways chiefs over repairs to an Ormskirk service road.
Scott ward Tory hopeful Edward McCarthy was contacted by residents on County Road concerned about the service road which allows access to properties between The Fiveways and Hayfield pubs.
He wrote to the County Council on their behalf, and has now been told it will be resurfaced, and been included in a future works programme. In the meantime, works have been undertaken to ensure the road remains safe.
Edward said: "Residents will be delighted at news of the extra investment from the County Council.
"I spoke to one resident who told me it has never been resurfaced ever since it was built in the 1960s!
"This is yet another shocking example of how the previous Labour administration left Ormskirk's roads to rot, starving them of essential funding to hand over a legacy to the new Conservative administration of a crumbling highways network.
"I am grateful funds will be committed to get the service road repaired, one of many across Scott Ward which have been repaired in the past three years."

A few weeks ago County Councillor O’Toole commented: “Since taking control of Lancashire County Council the Conservative administration has increased the spending on highway maintenance, a fact that is reflected in the quicker response given to emergency situations and road repairs in general” yet in his own ward Prescot Road is now in the worst condition I have known it for at least 30 years. Who is to blame?
