Last week, secondary schools in West Lancs were invited to take part in the Lords Taverners U13 Indoor Schools’ Cricket Competition.
The event was extremely competitive with three schools (Ormskirk School, St. Bedes and Our Lady’s, Skem.) still in with a chance of winning the competition after their penultimate game.
Going into their final game Ormskirk School had won all of their three games and needed to beat St.Bedes, who'd only previously lost to Our Lady’s.
If St Bedes won this game the result of the competition would have gone to the school with the highest run rate throughout the competition. The game went to the final over with St. Bedes needing just 3 runs to win. A magnificent display of bowling from Philip Bradley-Jones left St. Bedes needing just 1 run from the final delivery. The ball beat the outside edge, went through to the keeper, Daniel Brady, who took the bails off which resulted in the game being a tie.
After a nail biting end to the competition which included some outstanding individual and team performances, Ormskirk School now go through to the Lancashire finals at Old Trafford in April.
