The Halsall Penny and Colonel Mordaunt’s Mill
The Halsall Penny and Colonel Mordaunt’s Mill.
The first token coin.
Thanks to roving-eye for finding this site.
This is a very interesting web site.
http://www.numsoc.net/halsall.html
for many reasons, one is Halsall is were I have made my home.
And Colonel's Mordaunts Home, Hallsall Hall I have restored and turned it into 5 homes. I also live in the Manor grounds in the coach house that was part of Halsall Hall next to the Tithe barn which I completed the restoration on in 2000 which now is the homes for 3 families.
The Mill, The foundation is still in place and the back wall now supports the A5147.
I was turned down planning permission to my amazement to restore the mill.
The drain hoppers (spouts) I have found and are to be restored.
The Archaeological dig found the entrance stones to the mill, they where in fact reclaimed stone from the days of Sir Henry Halsall Circa 1600

Wow, that is very interesting. I hope you'll give me (and The Husband) a tour when we win the lottery and visit my old hometown!

here is Our New Prime Minister examining theantiquesman penny

At the time of the photograph the main thing on everyone's mind as well as the head lines of all the news papers was the "shrinking pound" and how mush less the pound could buy compared with the Euro and the Dollar.
So I asked David Cameron what he would do about the shrinking penny. I was obviously taking the micky but David took it quite seriously. So much so the Pound has gained quite a bit against the Euro from virtually parity to 1.20 and the $ from the low 1.40s to nearly 1.60 since he came into office.
By the way ... I am holding a penny minted today.

Oh Vanny you never fail to amaze me. I have to say your comedy is an acquired taste!

"BUTCHERS" taste"
Norman Wisdom thought my humour was next to none. In fact the quickest one liner he has ever heard.

another interesting item from the village of Halsall
A spittoon from Halsall's famous Saracens Head Pub
Made around 1910.
It has the name Littlewood on it. I have seen many Jugs with local names like Halsall, Mawdsley, Barton, Banks etc.
