Private Tutors

I currently work freelance for an excellent tuition agency in Southport and decided to look at private tuition and whether it works etc... for my thesis for Masters. So to gather some qualitative data, I want to ask... do/did you have a private tutor for yourself or child and did it work?

My grandson (year 4) is currently having some private tuition (1 Hour weekly), it seems to have made a difference, 2 years ago he wasn't entered into the SATS and seemed to be falling further behind. We were trying coaching at home but it didn't seem to work (lack of concentration), we eventually found a retired teacher who only charges £5, it has been slow but he has made good progress. In my opinion the progress has been because of the 1 to 1 and the fact it was outside the family / school environment.
